The typical modern kitchen lighting layout works perfectly well in terms of lighting design, but it has a couple of major drawbacks, mainly because in order to get the kind of crisp light needed in a kitchen the default option has become halogen lamps. These are hugely inefficient and operate at extremely high temperatures. Well over 90% of the electricity you pay good money for to light your kitchen is wasted as heat which itself presents a fire risk to any material located in close proximity.
Anyone in the interior design world can tell you that the latest trends are leaning towards minimalist designs and neat, clean lines. These fixtures are slender, sleek and absolutely posh. Use this form of kitchen lighting in front of the counter tops, over an island or against the back wall for a dramatic effect. In fact, many people use track lighting fixtures around the house in the dining room, living room, bedroom or hallway to highlight a piece of furniture or figurine.
Accent lighting also lends itself well to one of the best kitchen lighting ideas. And that's illuminating shelves. Shelving is great for storage of course, but more than that, it is a great way to show off knickknacks and pieces you are proud of. And try using different bulb colors to kick the fun up a notch.
