If timeless is your jam, go with classic mahogany. It looks good with most colors, but we're obsessed with this blue pairing. Because this apartmennt's kitchen has a bold backsplash, the countertops are subtle. Simple slabs of the same marble cover the countertops and island.
Although not as well known as granite or marble, soapstone has been used for countertops for many years. Another quarried stone, soapstone has a warm, milky appearance that allows it to complement other design features without overwhelming them.
Crafted from walnut, imbuia and anigre, this kitchen's nearly 11-foot-long island was inspired by English antiques. Surprisingly, though, it's totally durable. The wood is sealed with an acrylic finish, so it resists spills, scratches, stains, and heat.
