If you think your house needs some remodeling and you do not have a big budget, consider starting with kitchen light fixtures. They are the easiest and most affordable - just introducing one light that lights brighter or blends with other fixtures can add a new appealing look to your kitchen. And most importantly you do not need a decor specialist to choose kitchen fixtures for you.
The hallmark of almost all good kitchen lighting designs is the use of numerous light sources rather than relying on say just a couple of bright fluorescent strip lights. The reason is simple; kitchens are fundamentally work areas and require task lighting which typically needs to be placed between you and the items you are working with. If the main lighting in the room is located in the middle of the ceiling then you invariably find yourself working in your own shadow.
It should therefore be decorated not only in a utilitarian fashion but attractively as well. One of the features that can help make or break a kitchen's appearance is its lighting. Ideally a balance should be found between function and atmosphere, ensuring enough bright light is provided for safety, without being too harsh for a warm and pleasant ambiance. The following are basic kitchen lighting ideas to help find that balance, starting with the extremes.
